His History in Mystery & Much More Magic . . .
Bernie has been described as "reclusive and exclusive," a performer who quietly chooses his venues, doing it in his own unique manner. You won't find him on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, or the typical promotional platforms pursued by many. His magic is like a message in a bottle, a special surprise to those who happen to find him.
Many of his effects were created by him and are completely original. His magic is close-up and personal, intimate and inexplicable. He mixes magic with mentalism in a manner never quite seen before. Bernie was a favorite performer in the "Close-Up Room" at the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood in the 1970's, when he was a young magician and law student who was befriended by such conjuring icons as Dai Vernon, Francis Carlyle, Senator Clark Crandall, and countless others. The caricature of Bernie on the top right was commissioned by the Magic Castle and drawn by Ted Salter in 1972. This amusing illustration hung in the Magic Castle for 47 years; it and others like it were reprinted in the 1988 book "The Magic Castle Walls of Fame." UnCanny UnCabaret Photo on right shows Bernie performing at the downtown Los Angeles "UnCabaret" in 2013. He was introduced by Tippi Hedren. Others on the billing that evening included Loni Anderson and Richard Chamberlain. Bernie stopped the show when he borrowed three rings from three different audience members and linked them together into a inexplicable chain-like configuration. Thankfully, he "UnLinked" them as well, which was befitting since he was performing at the "UnCabaret." Those who volunteered their rings were grateful since they lived in different parts of Southern California and had no desire to go home together. Click here to read more about it. |
