The Making of a Magic Poster

My friend Igor Edelman (1933-2005) was a Russian born artist who worked out of his Los Angeles Studio. He was one of the finest poster artists and restorers in the world, whose clients included most of the major auction houses, as well as Michael Jackson, magicians David Copperfield, Channing Pollack, Norm Nielsen, and countless others. He was a delightful diminutive man who loved Charlie Chaplin; he not only collected Chaplin memorabilia but also had Chaplinesque charm and charisma.
In the 1990s he gifted me with a hand-painted magic poster entitled “Shine, The Man Who Knows.” He was inspired by a 1920s black/white/red poster of magician “Alexander, The Man Who Knows,” a poster he restored and mounted on linen for a client of his. The detailing on my poster is unbelievable and includes thousands of tiny dots to look as if it were a vintage stone lithographed piece. Igor was delighted when I reproduced the image on playing cards and posters. Igor died on March 18, 2005; his headstone is simply inscribed "Artist."

- The Remaking of a Magic Poster
A tip of my top hat to my pal renowned artist, toy designer and fellow collector Mel Birnkrant, who created and gave me this newly designed magic poster based upon my favorite photo of Maggie and me. Mel has been a great friend for over 45 years, and he is one of the most fascinating persons I have had the pleasure of knowing. He and his wife Eunice live in an eccentric and eclectic life in an old school house in rural New York state.
His website is a must see: www.MelBirnkrant.com

Yes you can teach an old dog a new trick (or a new dog an old trick). Click HERE to see Maggie perform her latest card effect.
And please do not say Maggie and I look alike— it hurts both of our feelings.
